A Special Note
We are grateful that we did not experience any damage from the storms and tornadoes that occurred in Southwest Michigan last night.  We had an inch and a half a rain and some small hail, but everything is okay this morning.Our thoughts are with all of our neighboring communities of Centerville, Nottawa, Mendon, Colon, and Portage which have severe damage and are working to recover.

Make a Flower Pot for Mother’s Day Activity! 
Children are invited to make a potted pansy or marigold to give to someone as a Mother’s Day (or other occasion) gift.  They start by decorating a pot, selecting a flower to plant, and then planting it.  It is a perfect and personal flower gift from a child for someone special.  There is no charge for this fun, learning experience.

Free activity for children.  Limited supplies, first come, first serve.

Mother’s Day Shopping Guide 
Alcohol – This is mom’s day to sit back and relax and enjoy an alcoholic drink!  Choose from 8 types of wine ranging from sweet to dry and red to white, and let mom enjoy it from a Corey Lake Orchards tumbler.
We have hard ciders made on site ranging from plain apple to flavored and sweet to dry.  Mix and match a 4- or 6-pack.  For martini lovers, give her a bottle of Lazy River Vodka with our dirty martini kit.
Fresh Salads and Greens – give mom a nutritional gift.  We have Lettuce Bowls grown in our greenhouse, paired with one of our specialty dressings, oils, and vinegar.  Just pinch the leaves from the bowl, keep it watered and out of direct sunlight, and let it regrow.  Also various types of lettuce, bagged, prewashed and ready to use.

Baked Goods – give mom a delicious and well deserved special treat

Asparagus
We have freshly picked asparagus pre-bagged on the market in various pound sizes.  If you are looking for bulk quantities to freeze or can, (over 10 pounds) please call ahead so we can get those orders ready. 269-244-5690.  Call or follow us on Facebook for updates on asparagus availability.  We may have limited quantities available if the weather gets cool again.

Rhubarb
Tangy rhubarb on hand for pies, custards, and other favorite recipes.  Sold by the pound.  If you are looking for 5 pounds or more, please order in advance so we can get it ready for you. 269-244-5690.Rhubarb Crisp.  While rhubarb is in season, make a Rhubarb Crisp!  It is a great alternative to pie and very easy to make.  Don’t forget the vanilla ice cream!

In our freezer we have “bake and enjoy” fruit pies and stromboli’s, and “just thaw and enjoy” apple crisp.  Also fresh donuts in buttermilk, blueberry, and cherry, and assorted freshly baked cookies, breads, and muffins.Specialty Dessert Bars – new
Just in time for Mother’s Day weekend we have our new specialty dessert bars.  Sadly, we have no photos of them to share because we ate them all as the staff tried them!  They were that delicious!!

They come an individual bars, perfect enough to treat yourself.  Flavors: Chocolate Chip Brownies, Reese’s Peanut Butter, Brownie, Raspberry, and Lemon.

Strombolis
This week we made Veggie Breakfastmoli by roasting our CLO asparagus and onions.  Just take home and bake!

Alcohol
Check out our assortment of alcohol products – wine, hard ciders, and spirits.  Our products are made on-site in small batches.  We distill the brandies on the farm and use our fresh apple cider as the basis for fermenting our hard ciders.Our Rhubarb Hard Cider is back!  We just finished bottling a batch this week in time for Mother’s Day and spring!  It’s delightfully tart and dry.
Anyone want a Dirty Martini?  Sean has expertly crafted our Lazy River Vodka from American corn in small batches, distilled it five times and filtered it for ultimate smoothness.  The result is a classic, clean and gluten free vodka that satisfies every taste.  The perfect way to make any of your favorite cocktails flow!

What’s Happening on the Farm
Planting, Planting, Planting
We are racing to plant around the rainy days that keep us out of the fields.  This week we planted onions, tomatoes, zucchini and summer squash, and the rest of our cole crops: broccoli, cauliflower, kohlrabi, and cabbage.  Below we are planting cole crops and tomatoes.
Springtime Story for Reading 
A teachable moment springtime story is up by the play area – it has some lessons about being patient and waiting.  Maybe we should all read it!  We also have the books and the accompanying plush for sale at the market.
Vintage Asparagus Display 
Be sure to check out the display of vintage asparagus items that were collected over the years by our mother, the maternal farm founder, and now Beth.
