Please join us in celebrating America this week – a great nation made up of innovative and caring individuals!  If you look around the market, you’ll find red, white, and blue produce and items for sale to help celebrate the holiday.  Nothing says 4th of July like blueberries, cherries, and homemade pies with ice cream!

Please note the change in our days and hours.  We will be OPEN all-day Wednesday, July 3, so you can get what you need for your 4th of July celebrations.  We are open on Thursday morning, July 4th for any last-minute things you need, but we are closing at Noon to allow staff time with their families to celebrate the holiday.

Produce Update
Seasonal produce is ripening several weeks ahead of schedule this year due to our warmer than usual weather.  Please rewire your brains and calendars to crops coming 10 days earlier than normal.  Watch our newsletter for updates so you don’t miss your favorite fruits and vegetables!

Sweet Corn Update
Possibly starting in 7 to 10 days.

Cherry Update
The season for Michigan sweet and tart cherries is underway but is shifting to the northern part of the state.

This week we will have sweet cherries only – the dark colored Bing and the blush colored Ranier.

We have an abundance of enticing cherry products for you to enjoy over the holiday!  Products include: jam, salsa, muffins, donuts, cookies, pies (frozen), fry pies, dried cherries, chocolate covered cherries, chips, slushies, soda, brandy, hard cider, and wine!
National Blueberry Day is next Monday, July 8!  Another fun day to add to the holiday celebrations!
Blueberry Update
We have already picked blueberries on the market from our long-term supplier, Brookside Farms.  They are available by the pint, quart, 5-pound box, and 10-pound box.

We also have a small u-pick blueberry field open when the market is open.  We have plenty to pick right now, but if we run short of blueberries to pick, we may have to limit the amount that each family can pick.  Our small field is mainly a place where you can bring your family for a berry picking experience and leave with a few to take home.

If you are looking to pick a quantity to make pies, jam, freeze, etc. we recommend you contact Brookside Farms in Paw Paw.  They have many acres of u-pick blueberries and are very family oriented.  Call them at (269) 657-3500 or check their Facebook page for updates.

We have a number of blueberry products on the market.  Products include:  Fresh blueberries – already picked and u-pick; blueberry pie; blueberry fry pie; blueberry donuts; blueberry muffins; Blueberry-Zucchini bread; Blueberry Salsa; blueberry jam and dried blueberries.

Bring the bright whimsical colors of these hydrangeas into your home with this all-materials included class with Kalamazoo artist Anna Barnhart.  We’ll be using acrylic paints on a 12″x16″ canvas with non-conventional painting techniques like bubble wrap to help us paint this bright vase of flowers. All skill levels are welcome as we embrace the playful floral subject matter and forgiving acrylic paints.  Hard ciders, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks will be available as well as snack items while you work!

Happenings on the Farm
Heavy Lifting
This week was another week of “heavy lifting”, with harvesting and carrying so many buckets of zucchini, yellow summer squash, cabbage, kohlrabi, and greenhouse tomatoes.   Plus unloading several thousand pounds of blueberries and cherries.  Please feel free to compliment all of us on our very toned and strong arms!
Sunflower Field is Planted
This past week we planted our sunflower field, the rain came just on time later that night, and they are already up and growing.  Expect our sunflowers to bloom around the end of August!
Sunflowers for Sale this Weekend
Our old sunflower field from last year just won’t stop producing sunflowers so we gave up and harvested them!  Find them on the market for sale.
Pears
Our pears are really sizing up!
Happenings in the Bakery: Cinnamon Bread
Many of you are fond of our homemade Cinnamon Bread!  Here’s how we make it.

We start by making the bread dough.

Then flattening it and seasoning it with cinnamon.
We then roll it up into a very long strip.
The strip is cut into loaf size sections.
And baked!
Thank you for your continued support and for buying local.
Everyone at Corey Lake Orchards wishes you a safe and
Happy 4th of July weekend!
