Thanks to all of you who’ hopped over’ last weekend to shop, hunt eggs, and see the Easter Bunny!  Luckily, the rain held off.  We enjoyed seeing all the families and the excited children queuing for their sprint through the grapevines in search of eggs!  Many of you got family photos in our various photo ops and planted a flower to take home.  See some of our photos at the end of this newsletter.

We will be opening for the season next Friday and have a nice assortment of Mother’s Days gifts!  Shop with us to get those unique finds that will please moms everywhere.

Market Reopening
The market will open for the season on FRIDAY, MAY 2.  The bakery will open about a week later.

Early May Days and Hours
Here are our initial spring hours, these will change as we get closer to Memorial Day and June.  May is a slower month for us at the market, but busy out on the farm as we are planting in the fields and working in the orchards and vineyards for the coming year’s production.

And of course, you can always check our website, FB, Google, or call us for our hours.

On the Market
Asparagus and Rhubarb Update
None to sell yet.  Both of these popular spring items are tracking at about the same pace.  Beth admits she has already had the first taste of asparagus for the year (the joys of being the farmer!!) but both rhubarb and asparagus are SLOWLY making their way through the ground.  If we have Spring weather, (and not these nights down in the 30’s), it’s possible we should have asparagus and rhubarb this coming Friday, May 3rd.  Please call or check FB in advance of driving over just to be sure we have some.
Reminder, it comes into production slowly so it will be another week or so until we are able to sell it in larger or bulk quantities.  The first pickings will be sold in 3-pound bags or less, just to get everyone that first taste of spring.  We are also happy to take orders for larger quantities and call you when ready!
What is on the Market
Here’s what we will have:

  • Fresh picked asparagus and rhubarb (if available)
  • Lettuces and produce from Bankson Lake Farms
  • Hanging flower baskets
  • Pots of pansies
  • Big selection of Mother’s Day gifts from our local artisans
  • Frozen pies – take and bake
  • Frozen cinnamon rolls, frozen cookies, frozen cinnamon bread – take and thaw
  • Local maple products, honey, jams, jellies and salsas
  • Alcohol products – hard ciders, wines, spirits

Stay tuned for next week’s updates, especially the many items we will have for Mother’s Day!

Blossom Photography
We have opportunities for professional photography sessions (for a fee) using our photo spots.  Contact Brenda@coreylakeorchards.com if you have any questions or would like to schedule a day and time.  See our photography webpage for fees and more information.

This will be the only week for the apple blossom photos.  The blossoms are delicate and light pink.  In general, the blossoms do not last long and are very dependent on the weather.  Rain, wind, and cold can change their beauty quickly.  We will do our best to keep photographers “in the loop” regarding how “showy” the blossoms are any given day but ask that you and your clients be flexible in scheduling to ensure the most gorgeous look.

Happenings on the Farm
Planting in the Fields
We have had a busy week planting green beans, cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli into the ground to provide you with fresh vegetables this summer!
Inside the Greenhouse
Our greenhouse plants are thriving.  We love seeing the many tomato blossoms and how quickly the cucumbers are growing!
Getting Ready for the Easter Egg Hunt
Getting ready for the Easter event was a lot of work, but well worth it to see the smiles on everyone’s faces as they lingered around the farm enjoying being outside.

Since we hide close to 1000 plastic eggs in our vineyard, it’s a job to go through the vineyard after the hunt and pick up the extra eggs.  Of course, we always miss some and end up laughing later when we find one!!

This year that problem was solved by a Trysten, a little girl who came up after the egg hunt was over and asked if she could go find them all for us!  And so she did, even separating them by color and putting them in our storage baskets!!  Trysten, thank you so much for lending your hands to lighten our work, and to your mother for letting you stay over to do it!  You did a great job, as we have not seen an egg in the vineyard since you finished!!
