Strawberry season is finally here!  Nothing tastes better than a freshly picked local strawberry.  This is truly a ‘short and sweet’ time in June; strawberries season typically lasts just a few weeks.

We enjoyed seeing the families that stopped by this past weekend to pick strawberries and the many customers that stopped by for quarts, shortcake items, and more.

One of our customers sent us this photo of their picnic with our strawberries.  We love it!

In honor of Father’s Day, all dads get a free donut this weekend!
We hope to see you this week!
Strawberry Moon
There is a full moon this Wednesday referred to as the Strawberry Moon since it occurs during strawberry season for much of the U.S.  We love it!  Not that we want to or will, we could pick strawberries into the night with the days being long and the moon being bright.  We are about a week away from the Summer Solstice.
Strawberries
Already Picked Strawberries on the Market
The strawberry season is underway, and the sunny days are ripening the berries.  We have them in quarts, 5-quart boxes, and 8-quart flats (as available) as well as specific times and days for u-pick.  The quantity of berries we pick each day can vary depending on the weather.  We will not pick if the berries are not ripe enough or if it is raining.  Since we pick fresh every day, we usually will not have them on the market until about 10:30 am.
With strawberries being in high demand right now, we recommend you call us and have us hold some for same-day pickup.  Please note that we are not taking advance orders and have switched to “same day, set aside” orders only.  See more on our ordering process below.

Please check our Facebook page for updates before driving out as things may change throughout the day.  We know your time and the cost of fuel is valuable and we don’t want you to come for berries if we are sold out.

We will primarily be using our Facebook page to communicate the availability of strawberries throughout the day and the season.  You can also check our website, call us (269)-244-5690, or talk with one of our staff.

We grow a limited number of strawberries on our farm and will be getting most of them locally from River Valley Farms in Constantine, as we have done for several years.  River Valley Farms also offers picked and u-pick berries; please check their Facebook page for information.

Our staffer, Alyx, and her grandmother have already made their strawberry jam for the year!

Strawberry U-Pick Experience
Experience the joy of picking strawberries in our small U-Pick field, located near our market with a short walk through our flower gardens.  This field is for those who just want to have their family pick a few strawberries for the “experience.”  Or those who just want to get outside and get a few quarts to eat fresh and make shortcake.  Guests will be personally greeted and guided to the berry field.  You will receive baskets and a quick tutorial on how to find and pick the ripest, juiciest strawberries.  After picking, enjoy a peaceful walk back through the farm to the market for a bakery treat or a fruit slushie to cap off the experience.  It’s a wholesome, hands-on experience that captures the simple beauty of farm life.
Please reserve a timeslot to pick by calling us to make a reservation.  To make this a special experience, we can only take several groups out at a time.  Please call us at 269-244-5690 and we will give you all the information you need.  We are usually able to fit most groups in the morning they call, as most of us never have our schedules quite as firm as we would like!!  There is a 4 quart picking limit in our “shortcake experience” field.
This week we plan to be open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, from 9 am until noon.  It’s best not to pick berries in the afternoon heat, not good for you or the berries!!

Call us or check our Corey Lake Orchards Facebook page for updates on days and hours open.

If you want to pick larger quantities of berries (like for jam making, freezing, etc.) we suggest you go to River Valley Farms.  Check their Facebook page for details on pricing, and days and hours open.

Strawberry Fool
Looking for something easy to make?  This Minimalist recipe is as basic as dessert gets, and especially in strawberry season.  It is essentially fresh strawberries and whipped cream (substitute heavy cream, sour cream or yogurt).  It can be eaten right away or refrigerated.  Only a fool would pass this up.  😊

Thank you for your continued support and for buying local.
