Strawberry Update
Check back the first week of June for a strawberry update. |

Time to Start Grilling!
For many folks, this is the time to fire up the grill for the year! And we have the produce to grill! Fresh asparagus is easy, and the grilling brings out its great flavor! Eat it as a side dish or add it to a Ceaser Salad. We also have mushrooms from Bankson Lake Farms and pork sausages and chops from Jake’s Country Meats.
What is on the Market
Here’s what we will have:
- Fresh picked asparagus and rhubarb
- Lettuces and produce from Bankson Lake Farms
- Lettuce bowls and potted mini-tomatoes for your patio
- Assorted fresh baked goods including ‘take and bake’ fruit pies and strombolis
- Local maple products, honey, jams, jellies and salsas, Jake’s meats
- Alcohol products – hard ciders, wines, spirits
- Nice selection of springtime gifts made by our local artisans, perfect for teacher appreciation, birthdays, hostess, or those pet/house sitting
- Hanging flower baskets (limited supply)
- Alcohol Tasting with cherry pie samples on Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm
- Ice cold slushies!
- U-pick herbs, chive only (the others are still growing)
- Fresh flower bouquets from Flowerfield Farm
|
|
Slushies are back! We picked a 42-degree day to get the slushy machine out and rolling. All that effort and we couldn’t talk anyone into getting one!! Flavors are: strawberry lemonade, apple cider, and tart cherry. |

Somedays our Driveway Hill is Just too Much You need help carrying things to your car … you just had knee surgery … you have a shopping list so long it will take several trips … you have on the wrong shoes … you have a little one that just fell asleep … you are in a rush … it is pouring down rain … you are just tired. |
|
Whatever the reason, you are welcome to pull up and park closer to the market. However, kindly keep the driveway clear for thru traffic and market loading/unloading. |
|
Bakery
We are busy making assorted baked goods.
- Assorted “take and bake” fruit pies, including seasonal fresh rhubarb pies (frozen)
- Assorted cookies, muffins and breads
- Cinnamon rolls and cinnamon bread – take and thaw
- Donuts – Friday afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday in buttermilk, blueberry, and cherry flavors
- Moe’s “take and bake” strombolis
This week we made Strawberry Rhubarb pies, our most popular flavor! |
|
Moe’s Strombolis. Many of you have been asking where are the strombolis and when are they coming back? Well, they are here! Moe is back to the lake and busy making her popular strombolis again.
For those of you who haven’t tried one, they are simply wonderful! They come in a variety of flavors and are frozen, just take and bake. They are great to keep handy in your freezer for last-minute guests or when you just don’t feel like cooking. It’s an easy meal. |
|
Grocery
We offer select grocery products like salad dressing, jam, jelly, salsa, fresh eggs, cheese, crackers, chips, meats, dog treats, and more. We focus on offering products from companies located in Michigan, to support Michigan-grown and Michigan-made!
Returning to the market this week are Mattawan Creamery yogurt and Amish Country Dairy milk! Find both in the fridge!
Also returning this week is Plainwell Vanilla Ice Cream; find half gallons in our freezer to put on top a slice of our pie, like our strawberry rhubarb!
For the first time we are offering a few jar goods from Safie Specialty Foods. Find pickled asparagus, snap beans, beets, carrots, and bread and butter pickles – veggies grown in Michigan. |
|
New from Garden Fresh are Guacamole Tortilla Chips. |
|
Jakes Country Meats products are back just in time for the grill! These local farm-raised pork products are made in Cassopolis, just west of us. Choose from sausage patties and links, ground pork, pork chops, summer sausage, and bacon. New this week, look for their salmon and whitefish pate in the freezer, and their new habanero-mango pork stick. |
|
Alcohol
We have a nice variety of spirits, wines, and hard ciders – most made on the farm using our surplus fruit and cider.
Stop by the market this Saturday between 10 am and 1 pm for our Alcohol Tasting! Sample some of our products and find your favorite! This week we will also have cherry pie sampling! |

For ideas on using rhubarb and asparagus this week, check out the Rhubarb and Asparagus recipes posted on our website.
Refrigerator Pickled Asparagus
Here’s a quick and easy variation on pickled asparagus that is easy to do! All you need is fresh asparagus, some spices, and a few jars. Just put it in the fridge for a few days to “pickle” and enjoy it within 3-4 weeks.
Air Fryer Balsamic Asparagus with Feta
Using an air fryer is a quick and easy way to grill asparagus! This simple recipe calls for fresh asparagus, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic powder, salt and pepper, and feta crumbles. |
|
It’s been a tough week across the country and in our state for storms and tornadoes. We were fortunate this week to have very little damage on the farm and we feel for the people who are still working their way through the aftermath of the storms.
We are now in the second day of cool, rainy days, making it difficult to be in the fields or even want to be outside! We’re hoping for some nicer days coming up to get back to planting and finishing up our flower beds around the farm. Yes, we’re a bit behind, but we will get there! |
|
Thank you for your continued support and for buying local.
Everyone at Corey Lake Orchards wishes you a safe and restful Memorial Day weekend!
