The 4th of July in 2025 marks the 249th birthday of the United States of America!  With the holiday falling on a Friday this year, many have an even longer weekend to celebrate with family and friends.

If you are hosting guests or just visiting the area, we have a farm full of bounty for you to enjoy!  This is the time to fire up the grill and load it with Jake’s meats and our fresh vegetables!  Top off your cookout with one or more of our fruit pies and some of our wines and hard ciders.

We believe we do breakfast the best!  Check out our list of breakfast foods below, many of which are local or made here on the farm.

We hope to see you this week!

Gaŗezers’ 60th Anniversary Celebration

July 3–6, our local Gaŗezers mark six decades of fostering Latvian culture, education, and connection in the heart of Michigan.  G60 is more than an anniversary; it’s a celebration of heritage, unity, and the vibrant future of our community.  The multi-day event expecting over 600 attendees will be filled with engaging Latvian events, music, networking, and the camaraderie that makes Gaŗezers a cherished place for generations.  To mark the milestone, they are also launching a special Endowment Fundraising Challenge to ensure that future generations can experience Garezers for years to come.

Corey Lake Orchards is proud to partner with the Garezers for this special event.  You will find our baked goods, blueberries and hard cider sold onsite for your convenience.  Celebrating 64 years, we cherish our longstanding connection and friendships as both organizations have evolved together in the Three Rivers community.

Congratulations to the Gaŗezers, celebrating their 60th anniversary this weekend!  For more information, check the Garezer event website.

Meeting Yourself Halfway
Today we are halfway through the year — 182 days on either side of July 2.  At noon, we suggest you take a pause from your activities and reflect on 2025.  Where have you been?  Where are you going?  What do you want to achieve in 2025?

Consider making some achievable goals for the second half of the year.  The sun is out.  Things are hopefully looking up.  And you have six months left, plenty of time!  😊

If one of your goals is to eat healthier, this is your time to act!  The market is brimming with a wide array of summer vegetables (though still waiting on sweet corn).

Summer vegetables are high in nutritional value and not only good for you, but also low in calories.  Many lend themselves to grilling which brings out their natural flavors.  They are easy to grill alongside your holiday cookout meats.  With the variety of vegetables in season right now, there will be something that even the pickiest eaters will enjoy.

Looking Ahead

  • Sweet Cherries – We no longer grow any and will not be able to get any from another farm this year.  The sweet cherry crop in Michigan was light this year and has already ended on the west side of the state.
  • Tart Cherries – we no longer grow any.  Please check with Shultz Fruitridge Farms in Mattawan.
  • Blueberries – In season, already picked and u-pick.
  • Summer Vegetables – now and continuing through August with even more of your favorites.  We picked lots of zucchini, yellow summer squash, and cucumbers – all on sale this week.
    • Green beans – starting this week
  • Sweet Corn – hopefully in about two weeks
  • Peaches – we no longer grow any but will try to get some from another farm.
  • Summer apples – starting mid July, these are typically softer and tarter varieties for fresh eating and cooking.
Blueberries and U-Pick Blueberries
Already Picked
We have already picked blueberries from Brookside Farms in Paw Paw, our long term supplier.  They are available by the pint, quart, 5-pound box, and 10-pound box.  The season typically lasts about 6 weeks.
U-Pick
Our small field opens at 9 am and closes when the market closes.  The field may be closed for ripening or inclement weather so call or check the website before you come.  Currently the daily limit per family/group is four quarts (may vary during the season).  Berries are best picked in the mornings before the afternoon heat.  Our small field is mainly a place where you can bring your family for a berry picking experience and leave with a few to take home.
Grocery

Starting this week we will have locally dried blueberries and dried cherries, perfect for you to add to yogurt, a salad, or one of your recipes.  We will also have dark chocolate and milk chocolate covered cherries.

Need multi-day breakfasts for guests this weekend?  We have you covered with local, farm fresh products.  All we can say is Yum!

Alcohol
We have a variety of spirits, wines, and hard ciders – most made on the farm using our surplus fruit and cider.

We will have wine and hard cider tastings this Saturday starting at 10 am on our breezeway next to the market.  Try some and find your new favorites!

Do you have a houseful of family or guests visiting this summer?  This may be the week to stock our Full House wine, a semi-dry white full-bodied wine that bursts with ripe apple and pear flavor.  Serve chilled alone, with sweet to spicy entrees. or with a fruit dessert.  It is quickly becoming one of our best sellers!

Sit and Play Areas
We have seating areas around the market for you to rest, enjoy a bite or drink, or play a game.  We also have many tables and chairs in our ‘Onion Barn’, a covered pavilion at the top of the hill behind the market.  We have a small children’s playground.  Meet up with friends or just take a needed break in the countryside!

The Recipe Rack
Ideas for Using Fresh Produce
Over the years, we’ve collected an assortment of recipes that use our produce.  We haven’t tried them all, but we look for recipes that we would like to eat and are relatively easy to make.  We invite you to visit the recipe page on our website for ideas.

Skillet Lasagna With Spinach and Summer Squash
This one-pan stovetop lasagna is a true crowd-pleaser, with rich tomato, oozing cheese and just enough squash (yellow squash and zucchini) and spinach to skip salad for the night.  Using no-cook lasagna, you can cook this entirely over a low flame, covered.

Happenings on the Farm
We just planted our sunflower field.  If all goes well, it should be ready for Labor Day weekend!
Our greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers are maturing quickly in the heat!
Thank you for your continued support and for buying local.
Everyone at Corey Lake Orchards wishes you a safe and happy 4th of July holiday!
